Grahm’s Instagram highlight began in Vienna, Austria where he is attending the Preparatory Committee for the 2026 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons. For context, the treaty is an international agreement which aims to prevent the creation of nuclear weapons with the eventual goal of complete disarmament. 190+ states are party to the treaty and all come together at the preparatory committee to plan for the treaty review conference, which happens every five years.
Grahm then went on to show the different events he attends during his time in Vienna before opening up his highlight to questions from viewers:
Any particular event or experience that motivated you to pursue this opportunity?
“I can’t really say if there’s a specific moment or event that sticks out to me. I really just appreciated this opportunity to explore my interests and kind of sit and have these conversations at the highest possible level and it has been an absolutely life-changing experience.”
What does your typical day look like?
“Work usually starts around 9-10ish and then goes until 6pm. Normally, if we’re covering UN meetings (live-tweeting and taking detailed notes), which run between 10 am and 1 pm as well as 3 pm and 6 pm, we’ll work at the UN and complete other tasks when the time becomes available. The other 50% of the time we’re in the office planning social media, negotiating with ambassadors, or fundraising. Part of the excitement of this internship though is that each day often looks completely different – sometimes we’re in DC lobbying, at other moments we’re completing detailed research projects, and we even got to go to Vienna. The opportunities are truly endless!”
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
“I know that I really want to make a difference in the world, any career path which lets me pursue that whether that be law, public policy, or government. There are so many ways you can change the world for the better and that’s what matters to me.”
